I am looking to create a Hackintosh with OsX Lion/Mountain Lion, Windows (still deciding which version) , and Ubuntu. I currently have a 15" Macbook pro A1260.
I'm looking to retire the machine due to some issues that have been going on for a while. The optical drive doesn't work, the keyboard is losing columns of keys for the second time (originally replaced under warranty), and a fan has been requiring lubrication every few months. Everything else appears to be in good working order.
I will be using:
-750 GB 7200 RPM 2.5" Hard Drive , currently functioning within the Macintosh.
-The rest of the existing laptop without any other upgrades, excluding the use of the keyboard, optical drive, and right side fan.
I'm hoping having much of the hardware harvested from my current machine, but I am not so great at figuring out which parts will or will not fit in a specific shell laptop. My budget is smallish, around $500, I'm hoping I can replace most of the incompatible parts in the new machine with parts from the old machine.
Any extra-special considerations I need to take for this project? Any suggestions for laptops to do this with?
