Mac Mini getting old-old-old. Student loans finally paid off. Time to upgrade.
Besides, I like A/V editing more every time I do it, and the old hardware is slow as hell at it.
Spent several months picking over tonymac buyers guides. When the April one came out, the time for waiting had ended.

I stepped it down to a GT640 video card until I had things working. Went with a 4TB hdd because random amazon luck made it cheaper.
The idea was the SSD to dual boot mavericks and ubuntu. I'm halfway there with ubuntu on the SSD doing fine.
The build was nothing, like legos with wires. No surprises.
The mobo is UEFI-capable, but most of the faqs and howtos suggest installing mac os in legacy BIOS mode. If I can have the mac os in EFI mode, I'd choose that. Seems that it's a lot harder than it has to be and nobody can agree on why.
I made sure the mobo is running the most recent F5 firmware...fwiw.
I gave up after several attempts to install mac os and went with ubuntu bc it just works. The first ubuntu 14.04 install was legacy, I reinstalled it in EFI mode because I thought I wanted it that way.
Now I've tried Snow Leopard 10.6.3 retail dvd with MultiBeast and failed. Maybe that's bc the guide is two years old. (Or the haswell-era processors aren't supported in SL...)
I've seen the boot0 error and followed the fixes but to no joy. Many of these guides are deliberately confusing and contradictory.
I've tried myhack Mavericks and failed. Legacy settings no help at all.
What the hell am I doing wrong? I thought all this hardware was supposed to be hackintosh-ready...
tl;dr - just a little help /r/hackintosh... if I got this far, I can do the rest myself
