My desktop is built using a Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H mobo and has AMD 7870 graphics. I'm trying to install Mavericks, which supports both of these components beautifully.
I made an OS X installer using a spare USB drive I had. I booted it up and installed OS X without any issues. I then used Multibeast to get audio working. I also installed third-party SATA drivers and the TRIM patch since I'm running on an SSD.
I tried installing Chimera 3.0.1 from Multibeast, but after a reboot I get a black screen with a bunch of garbled symbols. Some quick Googling has shown the issue to be my AMD 7870 card. Further research suggests that a way around this is to install the bootloader on my EFI partition. The tutorial I found to use this is here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/401-install-bootloader-extra-efi-partition.html
I did a reinstall of OS X and am currently relying on my USB drive every time I reboot to get up and into a working desktop. Steps 1-3 of the TonyMacX86 tutorial are easy, and I can perform them without any problems. However, Step 4 instructs me to "Drag your current /Extra file to your EFI Partition. Alternately, install basic boot options, system definition, and theme from MultiBeast. If this is a fresh installation, you'll also need to install FakeSMC to your main hard drive." I do not have an /Extra file as this is a clean install and I have not attempted to install Chimera due to aforementioned bootup issues.
What are the exact steps I can take to get this bootloader thing resolved? I feel like the tutorial isn't quite clear where I'm at and I'd really appreciate some help from the community. Thanks!!
