So I finally decided to take the leap into Hackintosh, but I have zero experience building or upgrading computers. I'm trying to keep my spending to $1250, but am willing to go over if the value is good enough. Instead of just following recommended builds, I want to be a little more creative and make a custom set of parts. Here's my PCPartPicker list, and I've included a list below:
- Intel i5-4670K 3.4GHz QuadCore CPU
- EVGA GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video
- Either the MSI Z87-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 or the Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H Board
- Crucial Ballistix Sport 2x8GB DDR3 1600 MHz RAM
- Sandisk Ultra Plus 256 GB SSD for boot
- WD Green 4TB 3.5" 5900 RPM Internal HDD for files
- LG WH14NS40 BluRay/CD/DVD drive
- SeaSonic G 550W Gold Certified power supply
I've heard that the i5-4670K chip doesn't need a 3rd party cooling unit for normal use.
Also, I'm planning on using this mainly for some casual gaming and occasionally for some work in Adobe CS6, Final Cut Pro, and Logic Pro.
As far as I can tell, this build will work with only a couple extra points of work in Unibeast. Just to be safe before I make the investment, how did I do? Did I make a fatal error somewhere, or is there something worth upgrading?
Thanks!
