Hello,

First of all, I'm totally new to Hackintosh and I didn't do much research (I did some, though). So if my questions are addressed somewhere please at least let me know that I'm a lazy bastard.

OK then. I have an ageing MBP and thinking of an upgrade. I want a powerful machine so my primary candidate is a Mac Pro right now. But I'm a bit concerned about it's upgradability or even a simple repair (part replacement). I can afford one but I wouldn't mind if I could save a hundred or two on it. Also I'm a bit worried about AMD graphics (every single AMD graphics (and ATI back in the days) I had to deal with was a complete mess) but I probably just have to trust Apple on this one.

Now, questions on Hackintosh.

  • I consider myself to be tech-savy. I'll probably handle OS installation but it doesn't seem to be as straight forward as with Apple hardware. Is it going to cause me any troubles? How about other software?

  • Matching (or beating) Mac Pro specs. I've googled a bit and I haven't seen a single build with Xeons. For example, tonymacx86 only list Core i5/i7. Same goes for dual graphics cards.

  • Mac Pro looks gorgeous. I take that it has custom designed motherboard(s?) and case. I wasn't paying much attention to hardware recently (5 years or so, gosh, time flies). Is there anything even remotely as nice-looking as Mac Pro on the market? I'm not ready for a hassle of going full custom case but something beautiful and compact would be much appreciated.

So, what do you think? Is it worth for me going to Hackintosh-land?
