So after being quite afraid of ruining my Windows bootloader I found the perfect solution to securely install Clover. Since Niresh doesn't allow manual selection of it updating the MBR or not I was quite afraifd but after frankenstein-ing a safe way to install Clover it actually worked!
I mounted both my Mavericks Install USB stick and the external HDD I wanted to install Mavericks on in VirtualBox with raw device access and install Mavericks via a VM on the real drive. After a quick reboot of my actual machine I manually selected the external HDD to boot from and low and behold, I was greeted with Clover! So I quickly set -v to the boot args and attempted to boot Niresh's Mavericks which was a blazing success for the most part, I had dual-monitors 1080p out of the box with my 7970 which left me quite in happy disbelief, heck even USB 3.0 was working and my USB HDDs auto-mounted!
But okay enough gushing, so far I noticed only two problems, my bult-in ethernet and sound aren't working :/ During the initial setup I first set I wanted to use Ethernet with DHCP which crashed the Welcome window and made the whole process start anew so during the second time I selected "I don't want to connect at this time" and made it to the desktop. Upon manually trying to add a new network interface Ethernet was nowhere to be found, only PPPoE, VPN and 6 to 4 so I guess whatever Niresh uses as a Ethernet .kext doesn't work for me. Same with the sound but there I already saw the problem, Niresh installed VoodooHDA which I heard is quite crap nowadays.
Can someone point me in the right direction? For Sound I suppose I have to unnistall VoodooHDA and then get everything running with a proper DSDT? I didn't dare to edit the standard ARGS flags or options of Clover yet in fear of breaking something.
My system:
- ASRock Z77 Pro3
- Intel i5 3570k Ivy Bridge
- Radeon 7970 3gb
- RTL8167/8168E Realtek Ethernet
- ALC892 Realtek Sound
Thanks for any help in advance! :)
NOTE: I will wipe this install tomorrow again when I finally manage to do a proper install drive for Yosemite and do a vanilla install but since I have to fool around with DSDT's and Clover anyways I though I might aswell try to get Niresh's Mavericks running since I would assume the steps for Yosemite and DSDT's with Clover will be similar
And for those reading all my threads and wondering: I'm using the Mac of a family member for all the Yosemite stuff, that's why it takes me so long to do anything Yosemite related as I only see the person 2-3 times a week and I won't have my own Macbook till December and want to get used to OSX again beforehand :P
