Below is the post I made in r/buildmeapc. I'm the IT guy for a brewery in Alabama and my art department really wanted a $3500 mac pro (small case) to do photoshop/final cut/pro tools projects and I'd like to build something similar (cheaper). I have a goal of about 1000 dollars but could probably get 1200 approved with enough justification.

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

Running Photoshop/Illustrator/After Effect for design. Protools for audio. Final Cut Pro for vidya

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

$1000 is the goal. I may could get up to $1200 if I can justify it.

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

ASAP. Part order could be placed today. Monday at the latest.

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

Everything but the mouse, monitor, speakers. I have a windows key but would need the iOS key and dual booting software

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

I'm in Alabama. I'm not sure what a Microcenter is.

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

Standard Microsoft mouse and keyboard. LG Flatiron monitor. Logitech 5.1 surround speakers Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

I'm open to overclocking but don't have any experience with it. I'm a build n00b.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

I've been advised and user requested dual video cards. If I can explain why he doesn't need two with this build I will. I'd like the option to do dual in the future as an upgrade. I also hear good things about SSD. One of those would be nice.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

User asked for a semi portable case like the Mac pro. I'm convincing user that we could build a better PC that dual boots iOS for half the cost of the Mac Pro he wanted

Do you need a copy of Windows 7 or 8.1 included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference for one or the other?

I have a copy of Windows 7. He would like to use iOS so his current external hard drives will be compatible
