2006 Mac Pro is showing its age. Its had every upgrade imaginable over the years and its just time to move on to a newer box.

I could go get a trashcan, but I honestly don't like the form factor - and seriously don't need the GPU's.

I'm into relatively heavy server & virtualization workloads.

Current Setup:

  • 2x Xeon 5365 (4[single]core)@ 3Ghz

  • 32GB RAM

  • 4x 2TB HDD

  • 120GB SSD

  • ATI 5770

  • Drive cage with 4x 1-4TB drives

  • 4x 1GB Nic

Todays Needs:

  • 12+ CPU cores @ 3+ Ghz

  • 32+ GB RAM (use about 30GB normally)

  • RAID 5

  • 6 1GB Nics

  • lots of high capacity HDD's

Nice to haves:

  • Wireless AC

  • Bluetooth (support for continuity)

  • Maybe be able to run a couple games every now and then.

I'm experiencing performance issues big time in the SATA bus speed department - CPU's prone to pegging 100% when multiple VM's start doing heavy work. Watching HD youtube video with more than 2 windows open? NOPE!

Can I get a LGA2011 platform and ensure compatibility with OS X 10.10+? While all my VMs are Linux & Windows Servers, I prefer OS X for my desktop / workspace environment.
