Yosemite 10.10
Gigabyte GTX 770 2GB
Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H
16 GB of Ram
Xeon E3 1240 (no onboard graphics)
I've been smooth sailing for months, but this has suddenly appeared today:
When booting, the apple logo and the loading bar comes up, then the loading bar freezes about 1/3rd of the way in, and the screen freezes there. However, the system boots, and I can get into my desktop using TeamViewer from another machine. I get a small resolution, choppy graphics desktop, and the system profiler shows my card as "NVIDIA Chip Model 128MB".
Things I have tried: Use either the web driver or the OS X driver. No change. Boot using nvda_drv=1 - same issue. Boot using nv_disable=1 - rudimentary graphics work, but there is no acceleration. Played with GraphicsEnabler=Yes/No. Tens of restarts. Taking the card out, making sure there's no dust, putting it on another PCIe slot. Using either Clover or Chimera (changing my boot order from the BIOS to make the system see the one or the other first).
At this point, I'm not so sure what else to try, other than installing Windows/Mavericks once I hunt down installation media and a separate drive to install on. I've no idea why the problem suddenly appeared like that, I didn't do anything different as far as I know of.
