Just thought I'd share this with you, but this seemed to fix the annoying crackling/popping for me. This is for people still getting the issue even with an external sound card.

System: AMD FX8370e, Asrock 970extreme3, GTX 760 Sound card: M-Audio Mobile Pre

1) I installed the audio drivers for the correct OS from avid.force.com I kept getting the annoying crackling/popping noises even though it was a USB card. I tried many, things like installing different sound drivers and trying different USB sound cards I had around the house, and I still got the cracking.

2) Solution: I deleted VoodooHDA since I had drivers for the sound card already. So far for 30 min it has fixed the issue. Go to finder > Applications > VoodooHDA > move to trash > empty trash *I just thought of this myself and it worked lol

It seems like a simple fix but it worked for me. After some research I have not seen this out there, so I thought I'd post this and maybe it would help out others because I understand how frustrating the sound can be for hackintosh. If not, I'm sorry good luck.
