Hello!
I've been doing full time video editing work on my Hackintosh the last couple of years, and the machine is still going strong. Recently, I have been working jobs with more 4K files. Typically it's ProRes 422 or Sony's XAVC codec. I edit all the files natively in Premiere Pro CC. These large files are causing things to slow down in Premiere. Scrubbing on the timeline and loading clips from the Bin to the Source Monitor can sometimes take awhile. I run these clips at 1/2 resolution, sometimes 1/4 resolution.
I'm looking at upgrading from my GTX 670 to the GTX 760. I am wondering if this upgrade will give me better results or keep me in the same relative zone of performance. I am not too familiar with how the two cards differ, and I know there is some debate about which offers better performance, even though the 760 is newer. If anyone has another suggestion please feel free, I don't have my heart set on the 760, I just know it's more recommended for Hackintosh stability, which is paramount for me since I am using this machine for work.
More info on my system:
- Running OSX 10.8.5
- 3.49 GHz Intel Core i7
- 32 GB ram
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670, 2048 MB
Premiere is using 'GPU Acceleration (CUDA)', which seems to run best. Other options are 'GPU Acceleration (OpenCL)', or 'Software Only'.
