Hi guys, posted this to a regular buildapc subreddit and didn't get much a response. I suppose this community is more suited for this project. Greatly appreciate the help, and I have chosen to keep the formatting because I thought it was rather helpful. If you ask any questions I will most likely be able to answer extremely quickly.
What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
- It will be for video editing. More specifically, it will often be used while travelling and we may build it into a custom case with a handle and what not. Thus, we are looking for smaller parts as well.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
- About 1300 CDN before taxes and shipping, but somewhat flexible if the gains do not become marginal. I am more interested in the parts than the price, if the price ends up to high, I could downgrade a component or two worst case scenario.
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
- Within 2 months, I understand that is a long time, but I do understand computer parts and if I have a base to work from I can make modifications or pick components that go on sale. I am asking for help because my friend has very specific needs and I will be helping him build this.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)
- Strictly the tower. It will require and SSD and a HDD. As an aside, is it worth getting a larger SSD for video editing or just for the OS?
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
- Toronto, Ontario, Canada
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
- Probably none besides peripherals, but we will address that afterwards so I don`t think this will be relevant.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
- Most likely not, since the intention is to keep things small and easy to travel with and heat dissipation would only complicate things.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
- Must be small!
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
- Don`t really need a case recommendation, unless you guys know of something that is really good to travel with and stuff. Otherwise we plan on building the case ourselves.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
- No thank you!
Extra info or particulars:
Ah I didnt anticipate this section so I included it throughout the post. If you ask a question I will most likely answer right away and really appreciate the help. I know that we need to pick the parts specifically so they can run OS-X but I don`t know what that is based on.. is it just trial and error online?
