I haven't run Windows in a couple years, since everything I do requires Mac OS. I also never want to deal with the issues that are inherent to Windows. For me, gaming has started to fall by the wayside as life tends to get in the way. I chose to install only games that would work under Mac OS. The only exception was the PlayStation 2 emulator, PCSX2. I've been really getting into Street Fighter and wanted to play. I purchased a cheapo system which included a Gigabyte GA-H81N, Pentium G3258, and 8GB of RAM. I made use of a beatup case and power supply along with a Radeon 7750 I outfitted with an Accelero cooler a few years ago.

First problem: the Windows USB installer tool doesn't allow using a USB hard drive to install Windows from. You MUST use a flash drive. Piss off with that logic.

Got Windows installed. Oh right, I need to download drivers. Windows doesn't have most of them and the ones on the mobo disk are already old. 1GB of downloads and about 30 minutes later, I'm good to go.

Time to update Windows to get the required software for PCSX2 and Dolphin. 10 hours later: STILL CHECKING FOR UPDATES. Okay. I need to Google the issue and run some tools from MS to fix the issue. Reboot a few times and it finally found the updates to install... all 240 of them. 1.2GB worth.

And don't forget to disable/hide the new updates introduced from Windows 10 that totally spy on you and your activities.

Received a BSOD half way through installing. Yay. Check the Event Viewer aaaaand it's from one of the updates. Rebooted and it took another 30 minutes to find the updates needed again. Thankfully, it picked up right where it left off.

Some updates failed to install? Cool. Reboot anyways. More updates and a reboot!! Don't you lie to me and tell me there are no more updates. Check anyways. [[30 minutes later]] What do you know?? 25 MORE UPDATES! Reboot again, but this time we're actually done.

PCSX2 still doesn't start. Apparently I need updates to DirectX 9. MS isn't totally to blame for this one, but why they couldn't be arsed to include a few DX9 runtimes baffles me. Download the web installer. NO MICROSOFT, I DON'T want you to install a bugfix patch, IE 11, or the Bing Bar. But thanks for offering me trouble-laden software. And no DirectX installer, I said I don't want the bloody Bing Bar!

Speaking of crapware, gotta uninstall IE almost completely and replace it with Firefox. There is no trust in IE. Apple had the sense to bring Safari back from the dead to rival Chrome.

Finally! We have arrived! The process took almost 24 hours just to get fully up and running, including the time spent making the installer and troubleshooting the numerous issues.

It was a lesson in remembering why I switched to Mac OS in the first place. Even though it's not a problem-free OS, most of the issues with it are trivial in comparison to Windows'.

For fun, I googled what it would take to Hack this box. Absolutely everything is included in the Multibeast app and no DSDT should be required, meaning I could do this thing up in less than an hour.
