Hey everyone, I have a build running 10.10.3 with Clover which has been reliable since the end of the summer. Specs:
Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H
i7-2700k
EVGA GTX 560 Ti
SMBIOS: iMac13,1 (Late 2012 21.5")
These parts have made for a pretty rock solid build over the past 4 years or so. My update to 10.10.3 this summer was also a switch from Chimera to Clover, which has been a HUGE improvement. I never could get HWmonitor to work on the current setup, but it ran stable and sleep/wake works, so I just let it go. Yesterday I installed the Intel Power Gadget and noticed that at idle, with all other apps closed, the computer pulls about 20W or a little more. The CPU steps just like it should, going between 3.9 and 1.6 depending on the load. Link to an Intel Power Gadget screenshot here.
I read on EveryMac that the iMac13,1 uses Ivy Bridge gear. The closest model to my processor is the iMac12,2 27" which has a i7-2600. Would switching to this SMBIOS give me any noticeable power management improvement? I'm scared to blindly try it and risk my machine becoming unbootable, but maybe that's just me remembering all my Chimera scars....
Any tips would be appreciated, Thanks!
