Hello /r/Hackintosh!

I'm a Sophomore in college majoring in Computer Science. I am interested in mobile and web development. I want to find out my favorite platform to develop on as well as become more well rounded in an assortment of platforms; also with HTML5 on the rise I will need to test my code on many different platforms. Therefore I am attempting to build a nice (low end of the high end) gaming rig that is Mavericks compatible. My only problem is I've been an AMD and Radeon guy and Don't know anything about Intel chips or Nvidia cards. I consider myself a fan of AMD Radeon cards but not a fanboy. If they are going to give me trouble I will just go with the flow.

So this is my question, I've read that the R9 series is compatible with OSX but I've also read some things suggesting its a bad idea, is it? and is that why I cant find any "Suggested Builds" with Radeon cards?

Also I'm setting by budget somewhere around $1500. I don't have all the money right now but I was thinking I could buy the core components (excluding GPU, and HDD for storage) and add the rest as I get the money.

Does anyone have any suggested builds for me that match what I'm trying to do or ones that are close that I can tweak a bit?

Thanks!

EDIT: TL;DR:

  • Must boot Windows 7, Ubuntu, and Mavericks

  • $1500 Budget

  • Preference to Radeon Cards

  • Big SSD to hold those OS's
