So I've been surveying the scene for about a week now, and today's announcement from apple stating a "lower priced" imac for $1100 was seriously disappointing to me. I've fooled myself to think that apple will catch up to the PC's in terms of providing desktops that hold some weight in gaming, but it seems that wont be for a while.
I've been contemplating the idea of a hackintosh for a while, but I've never built a computer before, and as much as I don't want to fit the stereotype of the typical apple fan, am also not very proficient with computer hardware/software debugging. I've been reading up on choosing hardware as recommended by tonymacx86, and have looked through the various methods in installing OSX.
I've started adding stuff on pcpartpicker.com and browsing r/buildapcsales to get a general feel for what I want, but I'm realizing that Haswell recently received a small bump to Devil's Canyon, and will probably be updated to a new processor in the near future. I've also noticed that the MOBO most recommended by tonymacx86 (stability, reliability) has been the gigabyte z87x's, but it seems that the z98x has just come out as well.
My conundrum is that there is 1) brand new OS coming out, and that 2) MOBO and CPU are going through major upgrades, and I'm afraid that if i make the purchase right now, whatever I end up might not work with Yosemite due to conflict in hardware/software. I'm seeing some audio video issues with the gigabyte z98x MOBO's.
Should I wait till Yosemite is out for a while, and have experienced people mess with the z98x before pulling the trigger myself? If so, I feel like I'll have to wait 6+ months. Mind you, I'm okay with tinkering and figuring things out (as long as there is good faith that I CAN find the answers I need), and I'm prepared for bugs here and there.
Thank you guys!
