I had some parts laying around and decided to put together this install to see if I could avoid purchasing a MacBook Pro (no quad-core 13" model available). I couldn't find all the info I needed for a successful install in one place, so I thought I'd post here in case anyone else tries this configuration.

First thing I did was fire up my Windows PC and install Virtual Box. I put together an OSX install and used it to make the UNIBEAST installation USB stick as seen on the tonymac86 site. I used the tonymac86 installation guide without issue until I tried to boot from the HDD, at which point I was met with a boot/GPT error.

Here are the steps I took for success, start to finish:

1 - BIOS set to Optimized (F5 while in BIOS), Secure Boot set to off/disabled and OS TYPE set to "Other OS". Turn off VT-d if your CPU supports it (mine did not).

2 - Boot from install USB stick, go to Utilities (top menu bar), Disk Utility, and format your install HDD To Journaled with GUID partition table. I named my install HDD "Yosemite" just to be thorough and clear.

3 - Proceed with install.

4 - When machine restarts, boot from install USB, and when you are faced with boot option of "USB" or "Yosemite", choose Yosemite, your hard drive.

5 - Allow the install to complete, fill in the required information. You aren't done yet though.

6 - Here's where I first had issues, I was hooked up to a monitor through DVI, and the screen would not wake up after sleep/screensaver. After connecting the HDMI cable instead, the issue was gone, with only some random snow momentarily when booting up.

7 - Run MultiBeast, choose DSDT-Free, and add the audio driver for Realtek ALC892 and the newest version of the Intel network driver. All other preselected options can stay. Your machine may freeze after MultiBeast completes, that's okay, just power off and on.

8 - Here's where the boot error first showed up for me, and it might for you. If the HDD doesn't successfully boot into OSX, don't fret, plug the install USB back in.

9 - Boot back into the install USB and go to Utilities again, Disk Utility, then left click your HDD "Yosemite" (if that's what you named it) and choose Unmount. Quit the Disk Utility.

10 - Open terminal. Type dd if=/usr/standalone/i386/boot1h of=/dev/disk0s2

11 - Quit terminal and reboot into the HDD, problem should be solved.

I really hope this helps someone else out there. If anyone has ideas to help me get the Intel Graphics driver fully functional, I would be grateful. So far it's limited to HDMI only, and 1 display only. The system flies along, I will probably get the i5-4430 and take back my 4690k for my Windows gaming system.
