Hey guys,
This is my first time upgrading my RAM since I built my machine in 2010. Here are the specs, though I doubt they'll be helpful save the motherboard:
Intel i7 1156 - 868 "Lynnfield" @ 3.07 GHz
Nvidia 9800 GT - 512 MB RAM
GA-P55-USB3 Mobo (1156 chipset)
4 GB 1333 MHz (2x2) G.Skill RAM (DDR3)
So my question is, if I order these, can I simple pop them into my computer to get 12 GB and use Mac? I'd be willing to reinstall as I use Time Machine on an external HDD, but it'd be nice to not have to.
My other questions are about RAM in general:
-My OS X install reports I have 2x2 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1333 MHz. However, the link above says the RAM is SDRAM DDR3. I read somewhere online that they are cross compatible, but I'm not sure about this.
-If my current RAM is PC3 12800, will this RAM (PC3 10666) that I'm ordering work? I saw online that the system just downclocks the faster RAM to match the speed.
