Not sure what's going on, considering I haven't even touched my Windows drive. I'll try to give as much information as I can.

Here's my current build:

I have Windows 10 installed on my SSD. I have 2 partitions on my 1TB hard drive - a 700GB ntfs partition for my data, and a 200GB Mac OS Journaled partition for my attempted El Capitan install.

I set up my BIOS settings to the optimized defaults and got the Mac OS installer to launch using this guide.

I'm currently stuck at the end of step 4. I started the installation but it failed since I forgot to set the scheme on the drive to GUID. Then I read about mbr patches so I was about to get started on that, but now when I try to boot to my Windows SSD, I get the "Missing Operating System" error, which is really unsettling. When I go into the BIOS I can see the drive as a boot option, but when I select it I get the error. Also up to this point, I'd been booting back and forth between my USB drive with the Mac OS installer and my Windows drive with no issues.

When I boot back into the Mac OS X installer, I can see my SSD has not been reformatted or wiped and still has all my data. I don't see any changes.

I'd love some advice on what I should be doing to troubleshoot this issue. Let me know if I can provide more information.

Hey guys!

I bought a new laptop yesterday, an Asus Q302LA and immediately began searching to see if someone developed a method for installing Macintosh on it and found this website https://github.com/RanbirAulakh/Asus-Q501LA-Hackintosh

I'm curious if this seems like a real method and wondering how I could go about following its instructions. I have another computer that runs a virtual version of Hackintosh so I have all of the necessary resources to begin going through with this project.

I became confused because the instructions start with entering commands into a command line and it's definitely not done on Windows. So I was curious whether these instructions started after I get the Macintosh installer running on my computer and I enter the commands then or would this be on the Macintosh/Hackintosh that I use to create my boot media or if it's something else? I figured maybe you guys could be able to tell me which one it is based on what the commands are trying to accomplish.

Also, the author of that page provides all of these necessary kexts and ReadMes but how am I supposed to get these to use them? I didn't see a download button for any of these so I'm wondering if I have to create the kexts myself based on what's available here.

I'm fairly new to this sort of thing. Was lucky to get Mac running in a virtual environment, but on hardware is a different story. Any help you guys could provide, I'd really appreciate, thanks!

TL;DR: Getting grey screen on boot instead of Clover menu.

Upgraded from a working Yosemite install to El Capitan using this guide. After running the App-store app, it rebooted to a grey screen with apple logo instead of my Clover menu. Hangs for a few minutes then auto-reboots.

I was able to proceed with the upgrade by burning and booting from a Clover DVD, now I have an El Capitan install I can boot to but my network/audio kexts don't work. Network works if I copy to /S/L/E, but no dice for audio. I have a feeling that SSD-bootable Clover will fix all that. Tried reinstalling Clover, nothing changed.

How can I get my Clover menu back when booting from SSD?

Thanks.

Hello,

I installed OSX 10.10.5 on my PC last weekend and got everything else working from ethernet to USB3 but no matter what guides & help I have found online, I am not able to make get power management to work correctly. It either crashes on boot with "p-state stepper error 18" error or if it boots it's stuck on 1,6GHz according to Intel Power Gadget. I have my i5 overclocked to 4,3GHz

I have tried letting Clover to generate p- & s-states but when it didn't work I tried using ssdtprgen to generate SSDT-file, I used proper flags to designate turbo-frequency to 4300 and so on. I also dropped OEM SSDT-tables. No matter what I tried, I can't get it working correctly. I do use Clover's ASUS PM-patch to avoid kernel panic.

Computer-specs

  • Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LE
  • CPU: Sandy Bridge i5-2500K OC'd to 4,3GHz
  • RAM: 8GB 1600MHz DDR3
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX770 2GB

Sorry if this has already been answered somewhere, I tried searching here and around the web but nothing has worked what I tried. Any ideas and tips are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I am not willing to put my i5 back to stock clocks so that's not a solution.

Yup, that's right -- no EFI partition, no Recovery Partition!

Thanks to the retarded BIOS in this laptop (cannot be hacked as of now), the computer flat-out refuses to boot off GUID formatted drives. I had a Mavericks 10.9.5 install on there for a year now, and it was working so well (with Chimera boot), I was afraid to touch it.

Luckily, user RGhabriel on InsanelyMac forum decided to be the guinea-pig, and went ahead, thankfully posting a guide of how he did it -> http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/300289-acer-aspire-4752-1095-guide-with-kextpack/page-2#entry2170828

I also added some info on the new 10.10.5 entry, with what I did to get USB3.0/Ethernet and backlight working on startup -> http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/308310-acer-aspire-4752-10105-guide-with-kextpack/

I am very, very pleased with how it came out, and not having to backup/restore 300GB of software and settings was also a big plus.

Hope this helps somebody out there with the same, or very similar machine.

Hi there! I'm planning to build my first computer/Hackintosh this Sunday and buy all my parts Saturday. Basically I'm following the TonyMac86 guide to a T (unless otherwise told) but I'm worried my local computer store won't have the recommended RAM and GPU. What is the least problematic and best parts for a $1200 build? Does compatibility matter, or does most stuff work? Thanks!

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can provide some input on Clover vs. Multi/UniBeast and other tonymacx86-approved tools. My build should be highly compatible, and I'm not clear on if there are any distinct advantages of one vs. the other. It seems like Clover is the new hotness(?), but perhaps the *beast solutions are more well documented, etc.

I would expect that my build is in no way unique, given all the parts come directly from the buyer's guides at tonymac.

Hello! I've almost successfully finished my first Hackintosh and all seems to be working really great except for 2 things, i want to fix them before posting my full guide on how i built everything for others to see.

Basically i am having issues sometimes when i boot and select to run the SSD with Yosemite, i get the following error right away, and then the computer stops booting:

  • Error allocating 0x146da pages at ... alloc type 2 Couldn't allocate runtime area.

If i retry some 3 to 5 times then it works and i can use Yosemite.

Any ideas where this error comes from? I wan't to be able to boot correctly consistently.

My second problem is that i also installed Windows 10 in a separate SSD but i can only boot it if i select that harddrive as the first boot device, Clover only shows me something like "boot windows from legacy drive 1 and 2" and none of them work, i get an error icon right away and the computer stays dark.

Please help with these 2 issues! :)

My Setup is the following: Mother Board: Gygabyte Z97X-UD7 TH Processor: Intel i7-4790 Memory: 2 x 16GB Crucial Ballistix DD3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) HD: - 1 x Samsung Evo 840 500GB SSD - 1 x Samsung Evo 850 500GB SSD Graphics Card: NVidia Geforce 980 GTX

Specs:

Clover v2.3k r3193

OS: Yosemite 10.10.4

CPU: i7-4790k

Motherboard: Z97X-UD3H-BK

GPU: GTX970

I've been trying to figure this out for a few days and with a few different builds. I am using (or attempting to use?) a ROM and MLB from a 2012 21.5 iMac and despite trying every guide (clean install, clover config generated and manually input SMBios, change password, credit card) I can get my hands on I still end up with a "Could not sign in to iMessage. An error occurred during Activation. Try again." and always end up with the following error in console:

9/29/15 6:33:16.899 PM identityservicesd[301]: [Warning] Registration failed for Registration info (0x7fc391b17fb0): [Registered: NO] [Type: AppleID] [Device Name: ****’s iMac] [Service Type: iMessage] [Env: (null)] [Main ID: ****@me.com] [Phone Number: ****@me.com] [AppleID: ****@me.com] [UserID: E:****@me.com] [C2K: YES] [Push Token: <******** ******** ******** ******** ******** ******** ******** ********>] [Region ID: R:US] [Base Number: +********] [URIs: ()] [Candidates: (********@icloud.com, ********@ ********, ********@me.com, ********@gmail.com)] [Auth Cert: 0x7fc391b15320] [Reg Cert: 0x0] [Profile ID: D:********] [Auth User ID: D:********] [Heartbeat Date: (null)] (Error: 9)

Both the hackintosh and iMac have the same information listed in iMessageDebug except for the field titled 'kbjfrfpoJU'. If anyone has any ideas on how I can proceed from here, I am all ears and not worried about formatting or anything else to try to get it working.

(previous thread related to this build here)

Successful Hackintosh Build — 2015/Sep/29

========== ========== ========= ========== ========== ==========

Executive summary

  1. It works, and it has been stable for 2+ weeks of daily use at home
  2. I would NOT recommend this for a beginner
  3. I would NOT recommend this as your “only” computer
  4. Having a “real” mac nearby is a really good idea
  5. This is the most important point: If I were to start over, I would ONLY build a hackintosh by using EXACTLY the same parts as someone has published in a DETAILED build guide.
  6. Yes I am still happy with the system (so far). The cost was about CDN$ 850 which is HALF of what a comparable new iMac would have cost me.

========== ========== ========= ========== ========== ==========

Build Summary:

(Note I started over several times, and had more than a few headaches along the way. This is just a summary of the final steps that work. Details of my travails will be noted at the end)

Hardware:

  • Gigabyte H97M-D3H mATX LGA1150 H97 motherboard (Revision 1.1 Motherboard, version F5 Bios)
  • Intel Core i5 I5-4690 Haswell 3.5Ghz CPU
  • G.Skill F312800CL10D16GBXL Ripjaws X 16GB kit
  • Corsair CS450M Modular 80 Plus 450W Power Supply
  • Samsung 850 EVO MZ75E250B/AM 250GB 2.5in SATA III Internal SSD
  • generic ATX case
  • Western Digital WD5000AAKX - 500GB, 16MB CACHE SATA DRIVE

OS: Yosemite 10.10.5

References:

CAUTION:

  • I based my hardware decision mostly on the August version of the tonymacx86.com Buyers Guide; the CustoMac Budget ATX mostly
  • As noted above I would not choose to buy this exact hardware again.
  • I deviated in the choice of RAM from those noted, based on what was available locally. I did check the motherboard manufacturer’s website for their approved list of RAM.
  • I would not use the Tonymac buyers guide for this. Instead, find a detailed SUCCESSFUL build from either the reddit/r/hackintosh forum or from the tonymacx86 forum and copy their hardware list.

INSTALLATION:

  • download Yosemite as per the tonymac guide
  • Note that it automatically launches an installer; quit that.
  • Make the Bootable USB drive, using UniBeast 5.2.0
  • Copy Multibeast to the USB drive

  • Build PC. Did NOT hook up the DVD-ROM or HDD at this point.
    ONLY have the SSD hooked up.

  • turn on PC and hit F2 to get into the BIOS:

    • Save+Exit -> Load Optimized Defaults
    • BIOS Features -> VT-d -> DISABLED
    • BIOS Features -> Boot Mode Selection -> LEGACY ONLY
    • Peripherals -> Initial Display Output -> IGFX
    • Peripherals -> Intel Process Graphics -> Enabled (ALREADY SET THIS WAY)
    • Peripherals -> XHCI Mode -> AUTO
    • Peripherals -> EHCI hand-off -> ENABLED
    • Peripherals -> Sata Configuration -> SATA Mode Selection -> AHCI (ALREADY SET)
    • MIT -> Advanced Memory Settings -> XMP -> Profile1
    • MIT -> Advance Memory Settings -> Memory Enhancement Setting -> “ENHANCED STABILITY”

YES, THIS IS A LOT OF BIOS SETTINGS. NO, I DO NOT KNOW IF ALL OF THEM ARE ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.

I stopped trying different things once it was working. Not entirely happy about the memory settings, as I wonder if it is slowing my machine down, but it was necessary to make it stable.

INSTALLATION CONTINUED…

  • Plug in the boot USB and boot the machine, again referring to the tony mac unibeast/yosemite guide
  • at the splash screen start typing and add “-v -x” boot flags
  • OS-X install starts
  • use disk utility to reformat/repartition the SSD drive
  • After the install it reboots
  • select Yosemite (the internal disk where you installed OS-X) but DO NOT HIT RETURN — type “-v -x” to set boot flags and then hit return

  • MULTIBEAST settings:

    • Quick Start -> DSDT Free
    • Drivers -> Audio -> Realtek ALC892
    • Drivers -> Disk -> Trim Enabler -> 10.10.3 Trim Patch
    • Drivers -> Disk -> Intel Generic AHCI SATA
    • Drivers -> Network -> RealtekRTL8111 v1.2.3
    • Drivers -> Misc -> EvOreboot
    • Drivers -> Misc -> USB 3.0 Universal
    • Drivers -> Misc -> Fake SMC HW Monitor Application
    • Drivers -> Misc -> Fake SMC Plugins v6.16.1372
    • Customize -> Boot Options -> UNCHECK Generate SPU States
    • Customice -> System Definitions -> iMac -> iMac 14,2
    • Now Build
    • Select Save, Save to Documents, Also save to the USB drive, for insurance
    • Install

INSTALLATION CONTINUED - TESTING: - boot + login

  • system preferences -> Network -> verify it picked up DHCP
  • system preferences -> Mouse -> UNCHECK scroll direction: natural (stupid)
  • system preferences -> Sound -> Set to use “internal speakers” (weird, but it works)
  • system preferences -> Energy Saver -> UNCHECK Wake for Ethernet network access

IMPORTANT: - system preferences -> Energy Saver -> Computer sleep: NEVER

From my readings it seems like a lot of Hackintosh systems have the problem of wake-from-sleep, and my system is no different. Setting it to never sleep is an easy fix for me. I have always run my computer like this anyway, as I like to be able to SSH in remotely.

STABILITY ACHIEVED:

After it was running for a day, I turned it off and hooked up the HD and the DVD-ROM and that worked just fine.

I did this build at work, where I had easy access to lots of bandwidth. Once the mac was stable for several days, I took it home, where it is now my personal “do everything” computer. It’s seen daily use for 2+ weeks now with no hiccups.

I did discover that Migration assistant would not run for me. It turned out to be a good thing, as my home directory on my old mac was too large to fit on the internal SSD of the new hackintosh. I used rsync to copy the files to the external HD, and made a symlink to that from /Users/ and it’s been fine. All other stuff I’ve tried just works: configured a printer, shared it, enabled ssh, enabled time machine on an external USB, installed some software, lots of usage of Chrome and iMovie.

========== ========== ========= ========== ========== ==========

NOW FOR THE UGLY DETAILS AND RELATED PROBLEMS….

  • first time I did the install I had no network. Took a while to figure out the right multibeast settings for that through online searching.
  • One confusion is that during the install, the network works. So there are more network settings in the unibeast Boot-USB-stick.
  • Very quickly experienced it freezing after going to sleep - would have to hit the system hardware reset button.
  • Tried a few options (the uncheck generate CPU states option, for instance)
    That worked for a while
  • Experiences irregular screen issues — lots of breaking up and vertical lines.
  • Over and over - very frustrating.
  • After a while gave up and tried a Clover install — nope, the screen went nuts only 1/3 of the way through the OS X boot. This might not have been a clover problem, read on.
  • Went back to Uni/Multi-beast.
  • I was using a DVI cable - tried plugging in an HDMI cable, and it locked the system. Had to hit the reset button.
  • later on, won’t wake again, get BIOS failure errors.
  • after about 2-3 days of increasing instability the machine totally shut down - would not wake at all. Could not even get the Bios splash screen. Multiple resets. Tried different PSU, RAM, nothing.

BAD MOTHERBOARD

  • sent it back for replacement under warrant.

SIDE NOTE:

  • I mentioned before that I was doing this at work to take advantage of lots of bandwidth. (Yes, my boss was aware of this.)

  • While I was waiting for the MDB replacement I happened to notice that some of our lab machines here had the exact same motherboard as I did. I pulled out one of the spare machines and plugged in my SSD. I booted into the bios and ONLY changed the “VT-d” setting — nothing else.

  • it booted right up. And it was fine for a day. Left it the weekend and it was still fine.

  • Note that this system was a version 1.0 Motherboard, with version F2 of the BIOS.

  • It also had a different brand of RAM (only 8MB), and it had an i7 CPU — I forget the model, I think it was a 3.2 GHz or thereabouts.

  • This system was amazingly stable.

REPLACEMENT MBD

  • my MBD arrived and I put my PC back together
  • booted into the BIOS and and the “VT-d” change
  • Bad screen almost immediately.
  • rebooted and Put in a lot more of the BIOS changes
  • still had no-wake-from-sleep issues
  • still would occasionally lock

Here was the kicker:

  • reset this new board to :

    • MIT -> Advanced Memory Settings -> XMP -> Auto (note that this now shows my “system memory multiplier at 13.33 and memory frequency at 1333MHz — on the other board the ram shows as 16.00 and 1600MHz. However on the MIT Current Status page it shows my memory as 1600MHz. I don’t get that.)

    After this I went to the “extra stability” settings: MIT -> Advanced Memory Settings -> XMP -> Profile1 MIT -> Advance Memory Settings -> Memory Enhancement Setting -> “ENHANCED STABILITY”

  • And the system was now stable.

UNRESOLVED QUESTIONS:

  • is the G.SKILL ram the problem? (Sorry, I do not know the model of the RAM in my work PC. That PC has since been put back into service.)
  • is the older F2 version of the BIOS better for a mackintosh?
  • is it an issue with my Core i5 CPU versus the Core i7 CPU on the spare system?
  • was it something else?

At this point, I did not care, as stability was achieved. Even if my RAM is a bit slow, this system is still MUCH faster than my mid-2009 iMac that it was replacing. Net cost was around CDN$850 (I did not need to buy a case or the Western Digital 500GB HD) which is about HALF of what it would have cost me to buy a roughly comparable iMac from Apple.

So, I am pretty sure I'm sold. My current system is a late 2009 27in iMac that is getting a bit long in the tooth. My plan is to build a hackintosh to use as a workstation and fileserver. I may dual boot and do some (but limited) gaming. I'll do some web/software development, a lot of internet browsing, etc. I plan to get a 30 or 34 inch monitor and run it at max or nearly max res.

The video card recommendations I see on http://www.tonymacx86.com/building-customac-buyers-guide-september-2015.html seem to be pretty weak compared to the processors, RAM, etc. Can someone please advise as to what's an appropriate level of video card (and perhaps CPU) for what I've described above? It is possible that I'll dabble in some media stuff such as music production, etc. but I don't think I need an insane videocard.

I was considering the Core i7-4790K for CPU, although this may be overkill.

I used this guide to create a bootable usb for Yosemite. Now whenever I try to boot into the usb it boots into windows.
I'm trying to dual boot from a hackintosh that already has windows 10 installed. I already partitioned my drive but I can't boot into the usb for some reason. It shows these 2 options in the boot menu:
1) UEFI: PNY USB 2.0 FD 8.07(Boots into windows)
2)PNY USB 2.0 FD 8.07(Boots me into a grey screen with keyboard not working)
Specs are in this other post if needed

This is my first build, and I'm having issues getting the Yosemite Installer to start using either Clover or Unibeast. I'm following the guides on tonymac86, and I've tried just about every boot flag combination I can think of. I'm still getting stuck on "Missing Bluetooth Controller Transport!"

  • Motherboard: GA-H81M-S1
  • CPU: Intel G3258
  • Video: Nvidia GTX 550 TI

I'v also got XHCI, VT-d, and the onboard video disabled in the BIOS.

Any ideas on how to get the installer loaded?

Hello there, I've been reading for the past week lots and lots of posts / blogs about how to go and install Yosemite using Clover on my Machine.

Basically i want to have Windows 7 (that i already have installed) on one HDD and Yosemite in the other SSD.

My Specs are: MB: GA Z97X-UD7 TH Processor: i7 4790 @ 4.0Ghz Graphics: NVidia Geforce 980 GT

I am super scared on moving forward without knowing better what to do, but i can't seem to find the exact info i'm looking for. For example, i don't really know which settings should i select when creating the Clover USB Installer, i also don't know which kexts to i need to add and i really can't find anywhere where someone states which exact settings they used for this specific setup.

When i followed Rampagedev guide for installing OSX i got stuck in the Gray screen with the beachball forever, i can't get passed it.

Any help would be greatly appreciate, thanks a lot!
