Hanging on grey apple logo after El Capitan upgrade, no Clover menu.

TL;DR: Getting grey screen on boot instead of Clover menu.

Upgraded from a working Yosemite install to El Capitan using this guide. After running the App-store app, it rebooted to a grey screen with apple logo instead of my Clover menu. Hangs for a few minutes then auto-reboots.

I was able to proceed with the upgrade by burning and booting from a Clover DVD, now I have an El Capitan install I can boot to but my network/audio kexts don't work. Network works if I copy to /S/L/E, but no dice for audio. I have a feeling that SSD-bootable Clover will fix all that. Tried reinstalling Clover, nothing changed.

How can I get my Clover menu back when booting from SSD?
