I'm unhappy with my current setup because it's 10.7.4 and I want to update, but for some stupid reason when I tried to take my Sandisk SSD out and do a fresh install on the 830, it wouldn't take. Since it's my work computer I decided to just plug the Sandisk back in and keep using 10.7.4. But 10.7 is becoming outdated with programs and I really need to update.

So I'll be trying again very soon once I clean up all of my photo storage and back it up. I have a few concerns though.

  1. Are SSDs finally operating at 100% speeds as they do in Windows? My Sandisk always under performed, almost by double. Back when I first did the build, it was a known issue that SSD speeds seen in windows would not be seen on a hackintosh. I can't remember why, but after several weeks of updating the SSD and all that jazz, it was still under performing. Since I was coming from a WD Black it was still fast as hell.

  2. Which drive should I use for the hack and which should I use for 8.1?

  3. I had some issues with the Sata ports when installing fresh and using 3 extra drives. Are all the Sata ports off the mobo supported now? I kept having to switch them around to finally get some of my drives recognized.

  4. If I run Raid 1 on my RED drives (They are blank drives right now, and will be my new storage) will they be easily recognized by Windows and OSX? This alone is tempting me to toss in the Hackintosh towel and move back to Windows /cringe to 8.1.

  5. Is it possible to update my GPU safely after I reinstall OSX with the 550ti? I don't want to reinstall the entire system and then have to do it again with a new GPU.

I am upgrading the GPU soon. It's also something that is leaning me towards windows. Although I REALLY don't want to use 8.1, I might be causing myself too much stress to keep up and make sure my GPU matches my system and will operate properly with acceleration in programs.

I saw the Clover installer and it seems very promising. So I'm looking forward to that.

My goal would be to have Mavericks up to date, the REDs in Raid 1, get 8.1 installed on the other drive, and get a new GPU soon.
