So, I've decided to go X79. I'm on Z77 right now, but had the opportunity to sell my current mobo+cpu (GA-Z77X-UP5 TH + 3770K) to a good friend and I wanted to get a CPU with VT-d anyway, without losing the unlocked multiplier. That puts me in LGA2011 territory and I've been trying to decide on a motherboard. The problem is the socket/chipset is dated and a lot of models have been discontinued and only a few are really good. I want to keep the possibility for a 4-way Crossfire (also purchasing 3x 280X with this setup, not intended for OS X use though :p), so I'd like a board with 4 16x PCI-e slots…
I guess my question is if the EVGA will work at all, considering it's a lot more affordable than the Asus. I've been looking at this blog/site for some info and it seems like it would work but I'd like to hear some more experiences. As for the Asus, it's way more expensive but seems like it would fit both my Hackintosh AND overclocking needs fairly well, and I'm willing to put the cash down for that…
OR… do I have to stick with Gigabyte? :p Not that they are bad motherboards (I'm pretty happy with my GA-Z77X-UP5) but they don't seem to have a competitive model in the X79 product line…
I'd love to hear your thoughts and I can't wait to recount my experiences once I get all this stuff in… :)
Cheers and thank you! :)
