Hey guys,
Been following Hackintosh updates for years now and feel like I want to give it a whirl. Shifted, in the last few years, from Windows to avid Linux user, but like OSX and would like to expand my options on my desktop.
I have searched on Google and it seems like things are looking good, but I want to make sure before I attempt something. I would be willing to at least start with Snow Leopard, but might drop the coin and get ML.
What I have to work with is the computer I've been using for years now and has served me well, I have updated some minor components here and there. I would hope not to have to dump a lot of money into this project if I can help it. I am really only willing to buy a new HDD if need be, but I might be able to salvage an older one.
This is what I am working with:
- Motherboard: Asus P5QL Pro (Googling says this is good)
- Graphics: Zotac GTX 650 (TI?) [Again, Google says good]
- RAM: 2gb, slower older stuff. No $$$ to upgrade (dicey)
- HDD: yet to be determined
One of my main questions is regarding versions.
I have in physical copy OSX Leopard and Snow Leopard from my laptop. I did a Mountain Lion upgrade via the App Store on my Macbook a year or so ago. Can I get ML onto a DVD/USB, or do I have to repurchase it?
If the answer is repurchase then I will try this project with Snow Leopard, just to see how it works out.
Thanks for input and help.
