So here is some background. For the past few weeks I have had my mind set on getting a Hackintosh built for my personal use. I am due for an upgrade for my computer (2010 White Macbook) and thought why not. Also worth mentioning I'm a 20 year old college student who will be a junior in the fall.

I presented him with the following build:

Here were his thoughts...

  • First off since I am going to be a teacher he is concerned that it would be illegal. Through the power of Google he discovered that in fact it is illegal. Part of his worry with this is that I would violate the EOLA from Apple. He discovered this article for the information.

  • He cited how in 1996 my parents bough a computer that was a custom build. After using it for a while they realized that it was more of a hassle and did not have a warranty if it were to break.

  • He said that because of the warranty that something could be not working and I wouldn't know what would be wrong.

  • He thought with me being 20 that I would instead have to be a IT professional to build a computer and fix whatever problems might occur.

  • He thought that my build was the equivalent of buying a Ferrari for a morning commute.

  • He said that when I run into issues that I won't just be able to go to an Apple store for help.

  • He reasoned that since I want to become a teacher, building a hackintosh that is illegal could jeopardize me getting a job and that I need to maintain a squeaky clean record.

  • Finally he said that hackintoshes are for people that have disposable incomes that can afford if it doesn't work.

Even though I am pretty sure he won't budge, please offer your thoughts. I love him dearly but have been incredible frustrated by the whole situation.
