I've just completed my first build; eventually got Mavericks working pretty smoothly using unibeast/multibeast. I tried to choose parts that would run quietly as I'll be using it a lot for audio work. Unfortunately, after a few minutes of quiet operation my PSU fan really gets going and the system sounds like a jet engine. I don't think anything's overheating (but it could be, I may have airflow problems but it seems unlikely) as I've yet to use the build for anything particularly taxing on the system, so I suspect that there's something wrong with the temperature regulation.
The motherboard is a Gigabyte Z87-HD3 and the power supply is a Corsair CP-9020076-UK Builder Series 550W CS550M Semi-Modular. I haven't tried updating the BIOS yet, could that be worth doing? I can't seem to find any options regarding PSU cooling at the moment, and I'd rather avoid the risk of flashing it if it won't fix it.
Has anyone got any suggestions to quieten it down?
Thanks
