I'll start off by saying I have no clue what the heck I am doing, but my school's reliance on OSX has increased substantially over the past few months along with my want to have a version of OSX myself. I am (quite?) competent with computers, but have no experience with hackintoshes and will probably need to be babied through the steps if my system is able to run Yosemite (because if it is, I WILL do it)
I just have a few requirements: -Relatively easy switching between booting to Windows 8.1 (currently and legally installed, btw) and Yosemite -Relatively stable environment in Yosemite-- I'm not expecting it to be rock solid, but I would just prefer it not randomly break and make using Yosemite a pain in the ass -Windows 8.1 must remain untouched/rock solid
Here are the specs of the existing system I currently have (I am including links just in case) :
Processor: i7-4770k Cooling: Corsair H100i Hydro MoBo: MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming Memory: 16 GB (2x8GB) of Corsair Vengeance LP RAM Graphics: MSI GTX780 Overclocked (3GB Version) PSU: Corsair AX-850 Storage Media: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD - System Drive WD Black 1TB HDD - Storage Drive (I would like to partition the SSD so that I can have OSX running off the SSD for faster boot times and whatnot) Optical Media: Generic ASUS DVD Drive (Although if for some reason I can't use this on Yosemite, I don't mind foregoing optical media altogether) Case: Corsair Carbide 500r Keyboard: CM Storm Quickfire TK (plug and play, AFAIK) Mouse: Zowie FK (also plug and play) OS: Windows 8.1 Pro (Legally purchased)
Hopefully that's everything. Of you've read up to here I sincerely thank you for your time and effort.
So now the big question: Will it work?
If so,
best way to go about the installation (I know there's various utilities) how should I go about partitioning my SSD, and should I also partition my HDD which although is only a drive for storing stuff, I've installed Windows 8.1 programs and will continue doing so
Thanks again!
