GA Z97N Wifi Gigabyte G1 970 i5 4690K

Yosemite 10.10.2

Based on the cpu I thought it would be 15,1 but that system definition is horrible with my GPU. Boots to black screen almost every time and sleep doesn't work. Guaranteed black screen when booting with an hdmi cable plugged in.

14,2 is a little more stable but I can tell it's not doing a great job with the GPU because everything is super choppy when I log in. Freezes randomly, but I think that's because I forgot to install TRIM. I can tell 14,2 isn't working with the web drivers all that well because when I use a natively supported 660 Ti, the graphics are much smoother and the login screen fades into the desktop instead of abruptly cutting in. Also no ugly loading bar at the bottom left corner of the log in screen.

3,1 also works, but it's not much better than 14,2 and I'm not too confident in it's power management because it's a pretty old model.

I hate to even consider this, and I know it's an absolutely stupid idea, but I'm wondering if I'd be better off returning the 970 and getting a natively supported 770. Apple started using AMD GPU's, is there even a possibility of Maxwell cards getting native support in the future? Right now these web drivers are really not doing it for me. I don't understand why they sort of work with so many cards they weren't technically designed for.
