So after many weeks of headaches and almost throwing my laptop at my boyfriend in frustration, I finally managed to install Yosemite on my Asus Laptop. Behold, here be the instructions on how I did it.

I used the Hackintosh Zone Yosemite distro from Hackintosh Zone. I highly recommend it as there is no boot-args required to boot on our laptops.

  1. Make sure your BIOS is in the correct settings. I still have the old 201 BIOS installed and everything is fine. Make sure secure boot is off (duh), CSM Enabled, and your Intel Graphics settings at 64.

  2. Boot into the Yosemite Zone (use the 10.10.1 release, not the 10.10) Install USB. When you get booted, format your HDD to one partition (unless your planning to multi-boot) and make sure it's formatted in Master Boot Record (or the BIOS won't read your laptop... GPT and Asus don't mix to well, unless it's windows).

  3. Once you get to the screen where you get to choose which hard drive you want to install in, Click on Customize and install the following options: Bootloader: None (unless you want to get stuck with the one that they have... which I some how could not update) Graphics: IGPEnabler=Yes Laptop Options = DO NOT ADD VOODOO BATTERY. IT WILL CAUSE A KERNEL CRASH.

(If I didn't mention it, don't mess with it :) )

4: Boot using your install USB and set up your laptop. When it asks you to connect to the interwebs, Choose "This Computer does not connect to the internet." We'll add the kext for ethernet later. And no, the wifi card is not compatible with OSX. Don't ask for a patch. IT WILL NOT WORK.

  1. Open Multibeast 7.2 and select the following options: -DSDT-Free (unless you already have a Pre-edited DSDT, then go for it!) This will automatically choose for you the basic options to boot. Also, if you don't want to use Chimera, don't install it. Use Chameleon Wizard (Comes pre-installed with Yosemite Zone) -Networking: Choose Maezi's build of the RealtekRTL8111.kext -Laptop: DO NOT CHOOSE THEIR VOODOO STUFF. DONNNN'T!

6: Install VoodooHDA 2.8.7.pkg.

7: Open Kext Wizard (pre-installed) and drag the Asus kexts from my link on my other Guide for installing Yosemite using Unibeast on tonymacx86.com. Also install Rehabman's ACPIBatteryManger.kext

8: If you have a USB wifi (I use the Edimax nano USB wifi adapter) Install that. (it is imperative that you install this AFTER the ethernet kext or you will get errors with the App Store... for more information, Google "Computer or device cannot log into the App Store hackintosh" It has to do with your ethernet not being set to "en0")

8.1[Chameleon Users Only] Drag my org.chameleon.boot.plist and the SMBIOS.plist (the SMBIOS is Macintosh Air 5,2... recommended for Ivy Bridge CPUs that ends with "U"... this is usable with Chimera too!) to your "Extras" folder

9: Reboot and boot using your install USB (If you are using Chimera, your job is done)

10:[Chameleon Users only] Go to Chameleon Wizard, and downloadthe latest bootloader they have and download/install your own custom theme.

AND YOUR DONE! Congratulations! You've just installed Yosemite 10.10.1 on your laptop. Oh, and by the way, feel free to update to 10.10.2. It will not make your laptop unbootable or cause a kernel crash. Trust me, I did it :) )

Recommendations: Go to System Preferences --> Voodoo HDA pref pane --> Input Gain --> 0. (So you don't get feed back when you log in. You will be able to hear when the kext kicks in during boot as your laptop will "pop"... just make sure you don't place the mic (located next to the camera) and the speaker close together as you will break your eardrums :P )
