So I have been doing a lot of research and have started to question my initial choice of a R9 290X for a GPU. After checking the suggested hardware for PC/Mac hardware, it seems that Avid currently only offers support for NVIDIA chips. There is little information about AMD Radeon cards, other than a lot of people on forums being given answers that are basically "I dunno, just get NVIDIA." From what I read, it seems that AMD's OpenCL support is far superior to NVIDIA, which will more than make up for not using CUDA.
After looking further, it seems that currently the best NVIDIA in the price range is the GTX 970, which recently caused a shitstorm in the community by having severe issues when functioning at >3.5GB of VRAM, which could very well be a problem with high-end video production. The only other options are the 960 (a little underpowered) and the 980 (out of price range by a lot).
This led me to the Quadro line of NVIDIA cards, which are specifically geared toward professionals for workstations. They certainly aren't flashy, but from what I understand they are the industry standard for programs like Avid and AutoCAD. Further research revealed the price for these monsters, which quickly get from the $100-200 range to $2000-5000 range. Those in the middle which are close to the $300 range seem like they would not work well for multiple high-res monitors and mild gaming. A lot of posts I've come across seem to imply that the GTX series is on par in terms of performance but with a much smaller price tag (and much larger card).
So here I am in this decision. If anyone has a Hackintosh with an R9 290X, I would love to hear about your experiences with Avid. Any advice though would be really helpful, as I need to order the parts in the upcoming week. Here are the current proposed specs, and if I have a hardware issue that I have not noticed, advice on that would be appreciated also, haha:
