Is it better to keep your OS separate from all your files? (Either by different hard-drives or separate partitions.) It seems like it would make updates go more smoothly, since it generally recommended to clone your drive first. Is it worth separating them from one another? What is your storage strategy/configuration?
I am considering something like this:
- OSX and programs: 128 - 256 GB SSD
- Files and media: 500 GB - 1TB SSD
- Backup (Time Machine): 2x 2TB HDD in RAID 1
- Windows: 128 GB SSD (optional)
Another option would to create separate partitions for OSX and files on the same drive. Or just keep it simple and have them both on the same drive with no partitions.
