I recently finished by build and was super excited to get it up and running. I got everything (except sound and 5ghz wifi) working and thought "wow, buying the right parts really does make this easy!"
I used clover and the associated install guides on the tonymacx86 forums. I read multiple success posts for the same parts I was using and even a few that used 90%+ identical setups (meaning everything was the same except memory or graphics or...)
Anyhow, what I didn't realize at that time is that it was only booting properly via the USB install disk. Once the USB is removed and I attempt to boot, I get get kernel panics. The main complaint from the KP is AHCI drivers. I googled the message I was getting from the KP and started at the top and tried everything that I thought applied to my setup. When nothing produced results, I continued to search for possible post-installation things that I may have missed in the first run through and tried yet another handful of things I thought would apply to my setup.
There seems to be a handful (if not more) folks out there that are seeing the same issue I am (not being able to boot without the USB) but none of the resolutions seemed to work for me.
Here are the details of my setup:
- i5 4690k
- GA-Z97MX gaming 5
- EVGA GTX 740 4gb
- Crucial Ballistix 2 x 8gb
- Samsung 850 120gb SSD
- TP-WDN4800 dual channel
- Yosemite 10.10.3
- Clover
I would love suggestions on where to start, consider everything I have tried up to this point null. Thanks for taking the time to read!
