I have 2 harddisks in my system that are bootable and wanted to keep them both so I can repair one from the other if needed.

So in /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist I have set:

<key>Instant Menu</key> <string>Yes</string>

This works - but I wanted it to boot into the first harddisk by default with a timeout. I tried every variation I could find to create a working timeout for my system, but failed.

  • using simply <key>Timeout</key> <string>2</string> before or after the instant menu or at the top of the plist

  • the timeout setting while adding a default partition or disk in various formats - for instance <key>Default Partition</key><string>hd(0,2)</string>

  • choosing the startup disk using system preferences in combination with the points above (one poster said that that was very important so I tried)

When I use <key>Quiet Boot</key><string>Yes</string> it works - unfortunately I can no longer boot from the other drive, unless I use my unibeast thumbdrive. I tried to choose another drive during startup through the bios boot menu (pressing f12), but that did not do the trick.

Any other ideas?

I am using Mavericks 10.9.5 on a GA-Z87N-wifi / i3 with 4600 graphics and no graphics card
