So, I made a post almost 8 months ago about building a Hackintosh, but for various reasons never got it done. I'm now finally to the point where I think I can do it, but I have a few last things to ask.

Firstly, I've heard mixed opinions on whether I should partition my hard drive that has Windows and split it in two, or if I should just buy a new one? Because if I have to buy a new one, I'll probably just install Linux instead, because I don't really have the money right now to go buy another $50-100 drive to plop it on. Partitioning I have experience with, I'd just need to know the format to do it in.

Secondly, is there any way to obtain Yosemite or any version that can be updated to Yosemite legally (I.E. without blatant piracy. I know Hackintoshing is not explicitly legal, but still) without having access to a Mac? Literally everyone I know has a PC, so there's no way for me to get the installer from those. I've seen some linked on various sites, but I don't trust them even slightly.

I know you can buy Snow Leopard on a disk, but I haven't been able to find a plain download of it, so if there is one somewhere and that would work, I could do that.

Thirdly, how stable are they usually? I've heard of people going for weeks on end without shutting down and having no issues, but I've heard of others who have to reboot every day from crashes etc. I'd assume hardware is part of this, but my PC is a pretty standard Haswell setup with and i5, H97 mobo, and R9 280, so I don't think it should be an issue.

And finally, I know updates tend to break the OS, so is there any way to disable them, at least temporarily, so that I could wait for them to be tested before I go entirely buggering my install just because I can?

TL:DR: Wall of text.
