Hi guys,

I've been running Mavericks perfectly for some time now, but recently have noticed a couple of freezes during the use of Adobe Premiere CC, and perhaps a bit of overall sluggishness. Tonight, Premiere froze, and seemingly took down the whole system.

Premiere color-wheeled, so I force quit it, then the rest of the system started acting sort of unresponsive. When I clicked "restart," open programs would not automatically quit. When I manually quit them, Finder disappeared. I waited a minute and then decided to hard shutdown and reboot.

Now, when I try to boot into my Mavericks installation, the system shuts down at the Apple logo. Verbose mode shows a disk2s2 i/o error, and says the volume could not be repaired.

Here are my specs:

  • Intel I7-2700k,
  • GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3,
  • 4x 4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz,
  • EVGA GTX 570,
  • WD 1TB 7200rpm,
  • OCZ 850 watt PSU

After reading this, I'm worried that I'm at risk of learning a hard lesson about backing up data... I'm hoping that I can get in long enough to perform a time machine backup and re-install on a new hard drive.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for reading, any help is seriously appreciated.
