Running GTX 980 at Zero RPM

Hey all. I recently got a reference GTX 980 at a deep discount. This one to be exact:

It has the reference blower style cooler and unlike an Asus Strix or EVGA ACX 2.0 cooler, the fan does not shut off at temps below 55-60C.

I was wondering whether there was a method to control the GPU fan that would override the build in fan speed control. In Windows it can pretty easily be done through MSI Afterburner.
