At last! After some time deciding if I should do a hackintosh, I finally got the time.

I have a 2011 15" MBP but I wanted something more powerful for FCPX editing. I decided to go for a mid spec build. It's the main family computer that my younger brothers use but I saved a spare 70GB HDD to try Hackintosh. It works so flawlessly that I'm considering buying a secondary SSD and 1TB HDD and have dual OS.

The specs:

  • Asus H97 Plus
  • 4X2 GB RAM Crucial Ballistix 1600MHz.
  • Intel Core i5 4690K (stock cooler)
  • Nvidia GTX 660 (reference model. Was going to upgrade to 970 but nah)
  • Corsair GS600 PSU

Using UniBeast and MultiBeast to do the process, everything worked out of the box. Audio, Ethernet, video, etc.

Now the great doubt is: This MacBook Pro is aging a bit. It suffers quite a bit while editing Full HD videos. Due to the skyrocketing dollar price here in Chile, all parts are now more expensive. I have now 2 options: Sell this MacBook, save some money and buy a top tier 15" rMBP or keep this one and save money for a mini hackintosh for my room.

Thanks to everyone here who helped me with WiFi (I ended up using cable) and all the people who have posted guides!
