Hi guys, I'm new here. I'm pretty tech savvy but I'm a complete beginner when it comes to Macs. I decided to fix up my gf's old MacBook. I'm already planning on upgrading the old 5400RPM HDD to a 850 EVO and the CD tray to a secondary 1 TB 7200RPM HDD along with upgrading the RAM from 2GB to 6GB. It all sounds fine and dandy but I've also read that Apple has discontinued support for this model of laptop, and is only able to reach up to 10.7.5. Is there any way I can upgrade it to El Capitain or even Yosemite? And if there is, would someone kindly refer me to the link showing me how to do so? Also would 6GB of RAM be enough to run said OSes? The laptop is pretty much just going to be used for web browsing and music so it doesn't need to be spectacular processor-wise. Also if anyone has any advice on making this laptop spectacular again, I'd be open to the idea. As long as the price isn't to absurd, of course. If this is the wrong board because it's an Apple product please excuse me mods. I just figured since it's out of support it fits into the category of 'non-Apple'.
