Hey everyone. So this is my first time building a Hackingtosh (never had the guts before), and also my very first time using reddit itself (which still appears as slightly confusing)! So, yeah, hello everyone!
I built Pcs before, but always using scrap parts, so never had to actually, properly decide them myself – and now I am utterly lost, as I am realizing I don’t even know that much about Pc parts themselves…
About the “why” and “needs”: I have a small video production company here, in Spain, and I’ve saved enough to buy (build!) a decent computer, once and for all, for decent editing. I’m aiming for an equivalent of a Mac Pro.
Main use:
General Video Editing.
BUT: sometimes 4K, and have a 360-degrees project soon, and other highly consuming processes (so I definitely need to upgrade).
NO Final Cut. Always working with the Adobe family and some other programs (that means stick with Nvidia, isn’t it?)
Will also have Windows. I work with a couple of programs I will be using on Win, not Mac.
I often have to move it around. So robust – at least –would be a plus.
I planned on 1200 – 1500 Budget. It is an investment after 2 years of saving, so if a slight increase in price may lead to huge benefits, I could consider it. On the other hand, that’s why I’m being extremely careful, as I don’t have much margin to fuck it up.
My thoughts so far:
From what I have been reading and such, seems like I should stick with a i7 processor. (Does it make sense to try to aim for 6 cores? Like Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3Ghz?)
Trying to aim for 32Gb ram.
Considering if one SSD with a partition, one being Win and other Mac, or two SSDs for each one – and then the 3rd drive with all working files (what makes sense?)
Best GPU possible within the budget (at least 4Gb, higher if possible)
A motherboard that could later accept 64Gb ram and other upgrades?
Does the case, the cooler, the powersupply, etc make any real difference?
I have been trying to find a “stable build”, as I’m a newbie with this, and it is for work purposes. Essentially, I already have a general idea… but can’t quite decide the “exact parts”… and any thoughts, guidance, help would be extremely appreciated.
