Hey, so I'm something of an amateur, looking to build my first Hackintosh. I have some experience with installing and running Linux, as well as some minimal experience with console modding and jailbreaking, but I've never build a computer, so this is definitely going to be my most ambitions computer-related project yet. But I mean, everybody starts somewhere, right?
I'm aiming to build a dual-booting machine, with Mac and Windows living on separate drives. Its going to be used for graphics/2d animation, though I would like to use it for some gaming on the side.
So this is the build plan:
Component List | |
---|---|
Mobo | Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD7 TH LGA 1150 Z97 Dual Thunderbolt 2 ATX Motherboard |
CPU | Intel Core i7-4790K Processor (8M Cache, upto 4.4 GHz) FC-LGA12C |
Graphics Card | EVGA GeForce GTX 960 2GB SSC GAMING ACX 2.0+, Whisper Silent Cooling Graphics Card 02G-P4-2966-KR |
RAM | Crucial Ballistix Tactical 32GB Kit (8GBx4) DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL8 1.5V UDIMM 240-Pin Memory BLT4KIT8G3D1608DT1TX0 |
Hard Drives | One 1TB "Crucial" 2.5-inch, 7mm SATA SDD, and Two 1Tb WD 3.5" HDD |
DVD Drive | Optiarc SATA DVD RW Burner Drive with DVD+R DL Overburn up to 8.7GB, Black |
Case | Fractal Design FD-CA-DEF-R4-BL Define R4 Cases, Black Pearl |
Power Supply | Corsair RM Series 650 Watt ATX/EPS 80PLUS Gold-Certified Power Supply - CP-9020054-NA RM650 |
Wifi Card | TP-Link TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4 GHz 450 Mbps/5 GHz 450 Mbps, Include Low Profile Bracket, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP, WPA/WPA2 |
Its basically lifted straight from TonymacX86's January guide, except for the inclusion of three hard drives. I was going to use the SSD as the Mac boot drive, have one of the HDD be extra storage for it, and then have the third HDD be dedicated entirely to windows.
Here are my questions:
-Basically, how does the part list look? Any incompatibilities? Anything I should swap out for something else? (With the exception of the hard drives, I already picked those up during a black Friday sale.)
-I have a guide on how to set up a dual-booting system using two separate drives, but its for Mavericks. Did anything about the process change for El Capitan?
-Will it be difficult to get the Mac side to recognize the extra storage drive?
-Will everything even fit into this case? I know its a supremely amateurish question, but I honestly have no idea how to check that.
-Is there anything you think I should know? Any advice in general would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
