I know, I know, it's such a "Well it depends..." question.

I have the following specs: http://ift.tt/1sHtMft

The board has been proven to work with practically everything working (here): http://ift.tt/1TTior2

However I'm more interested in performance and compatibility when compared to a legitimate iMac. Say...

The 2016 Mac Pro: http://ift.tt/19i3rZ5

I know, I know. They're probably a world apart.

But for those who want to, or have put down some serious cash for good compatible parts to make a Hackintosh, is the performance really fantastic these days or is it just 'pretty good'.

I've built a few Hackintosh PCs in the past. Nothing amazing, mostly hobby stuff. I used a lot of unofficial third-party Hackintosh builds in the past before it was possible to just use an official copy of OSX. Then later I built a few with OSX. Even on the pretty good compatible ones like my old i7-4700k, I still wondered "How does this stand up really to a real Mac?" Unfortunately I never really got my answer. Performance was pretty good, maybe an issue here or there with stuff like 'Turbo boost' or a USB hub not working. Nothing remotely 'deal-breaking' but I still always felt like I was more than half a playing field away from a real Mac. Perhaps it was just paranoia.

So the bottom line. Is it really worth putting down some serious cash to build a Hackintosh with good high spec parts, or are you just better off building a mid-range Mac capable PC for a fraction of the cost of a real Mac, and saving for one of the best real Macs if you want serious performance?
