When the Macintosh II was announced i was so excited I saved for two whole years to be able to get one (a IIcx) at my campus computer store.

I upgraded to a 7500 in 1996, then a ‘Yosemite’ in 1999, a Dual G4 in 2002, and a 2006 Mac Pro.

But I got burned on that Pro — after Apple Computer became Apple Inc it seems the company has lost interest in desktop computing. E.g. the only graphics update available for my old Mac Pro was the ATI 5770.

Last week I went to newegg and bought the parts for a build centered around a uATX Z170 motherboard. Here’s the “BOM”:

Skylake Build1165.28
ASRock Z170M Extreme499.99
Intel Core i7-6700K339.99
Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB)61.99
SAMSUNG 950 PRO M.2 512GB316.05
APEVIA X-QBER-WHT59.99
SeaSonic Snow Silent 750149.99
Noctua NH-C14S79.99
Noctua NF-P12-1300 (x2)35.30
Noctua NF-A1421.99

It’s no Mac, but it’s the PC I want and I wish Apple could hit that price point with a similar IIcx-esque minitower that supported the latest graphics cards like nvidia’s upcoming ‘Pascal'.

While I doubt this direction is the future of Apple, I hope things change since OS X is great and Windows is still Windows.

Thanks for your time.
