Hey guys, I wanna build a hackintosh for school since I don't have the money to shell out for a real Mac (budget is $500). Is it a good idea to make one and use it as a main machine? I know OS updates can be risky but I'm not the type of person that needs to update right away, and I'm fine with the way 10.11 works these days (I currently have a 2009 MacBook Pro that I'll give to my mom who needs a new laptop). For mobile uses I'll likely buy a chromebook, so no worries there. My uses are MS Office and Xcode, as well as simpler uses like web browsing and music, and storing all my media. What kinds of lesser known risks are involved other than having a system crash after an OS update? How hard is it to get services like iMessage working? Does iPhone syncing work like it's supposed to? I just don't want to wake up one day to find that my machine won't turn on or boot properly. For those who built a hackintosh for college and use it as a main machine, how's it worked out for you? Thanks in advance for all your responses!
