hey folks! trying to appeal to the big hackintosh brain that's here. here is the situation. i have a Hackintosh with Mountain Lion 10.8.5 using Chameleon bootloader via Ermac's excellent Enoch bootloader variant. i want to upgrade it to Yosemite, but knowing the risks, i decided to clone my main boot SSD to another larger one and then update the clone. that's been done and the cloned drive boots up fine.

so now i'm having to install Yosemite onto a flash drive. i downloaded a torrent of Yosemite as i have no retail copy and it isn't available otherwise. i used the Inmac installer mentioned in some other threads and all of the files appear to be there. followed the instructions on creating a bootable USB drive using instructions for Chameleon bootloader posted here (link in Italian pretty effectively translated by Google) :http://ift.tt/1U40iVl

okay, so now the problems start. when booting on the hackintosh it drops into the older Chameleon bootloader even if i specify to start from the Flash drive in the BIOS. maybe that's no big deal. next the install immediately complains about the kernel missing, so i copy the kernel download from guide i posted (this guy is really thorough) and put it in the appropriate folder and reboot, adding in the path to the kernel. next time it gets a bit farther but eventually fails on the 'ACPI table not found' and 'Using custom DSDT!' and doesn't boot.

so i installed Clover instead on the flash drive but i basically got the same result (no kernel, no ACPI, etc). so i'm curious if these issues are all stemming from the use of the older bootloader that it always defaults to or something else? i can certainly yank all the drives offline in hopes that i can get the Clover bootloader to boot but i don't want to wreck the bootloader on the original drive. anyone know what best practices you use when you want two drives with different bootloaders? maybe it's just not possible as the bootloader is for the system and not individual devices? any guidance or assistance in sleuthing this mystery appreciated. i will of course be working on this in the meantime. thanks!
