Hello world, I'm currently looking to build my own Hackintosh for the first time, so I've been monitoring forums, Tonymacx86 site, and this subreddit for a while and noticed a really nice community. I've worked with computers a lot, as I've done tech maintenance work, but I've never built a PC from ground up, so I'm comfortable with computers but still at a lost about where to start and how to start with a Hackintosh. I've got a load of questions and I'm hoping all the nice people in the Hackintosh-munity can help out, thanks.
My reasons and usage of a Hackintosh: I work on graphic intensive stuff such as video-editing, Adobe designing, and even CAD work, along with compiling and development of code. My current Macbook Pro is a late 2011 model which still runs on a HDD, although I really love this laptop, I'm at a point where I think I need a more powerful machine. The current Apple setup isn't providing the most powerful machines at the most reasonable prices (in my opinion) as I can easily build a much more powerful machine with the same amount of money. Although there are still software compatibility issues (mostly games), the current Windows isn't so much my taste either ("I'll update for ya", "You're files are where you left them [suspicious ಠ_ಠ]"). So I thought having the power of most custom PCs and the interface of a Mac was the ultimate option.
My current progress: research, done quite a few, I wouldn't say plenty, but a few. Tonymacx86 suggested to start with the mobo, so that's where I started. From there I selected a few components but I'm not sure if I'm going in the right direction. I'm currently looking at these with a budget of (USD 900-1100):
Mobo: Gigabyte GA Z170X Gaming 5 ATX
Core: Intel i7 6700K
Cooler: Corsair H60 Liquid Cooler
SSD: Samsung EVO 850
Other components, at a lost, need recommendations
Questions:
What's a good RAM choice, G.Skill vs Corsair, or something else (looking at 32GB)?
What's a recommended build for graphics, programming, and gaming (looking to duo boot Windows on a separate drive as an upgrade later on)? If there are recommendations to my current component selections that's fine as well, please tell me.
How complicated is it to upgrade components to a Hackintosh, I'm aware that updating software wise is kind of troublesome with testing, troubleshooting, etc. is hardware upgrades the same? (Not so much an issue, I enjoy troubleshooting, just wondering)
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the UEFI thing, so can someone elaborate for me, and how Clover works with UEFI. Does clover just serve as an intermediate program to check all hardware and initiate OS X, kind of like an assistant?
Will NVIDIA work better with OS X or AMD for graphical software like Adobe Photoshop, Autodesk CAD, and other stuff?
How does the whole editing BIOS thing work? Is it through Clover?
Will probably wait for fall to build my Hackintosh, hoping at that time macOS Sierra will be compatible, but I'd be willing to help figure things out for the new OS update as well!
TL;DR Hi, I'm a noob, need some help (questions above)! Thanks so much! Fully aware this isn't 9gag, but sorry for the long post.
