I was having a lot of trouble upgrading to El Capitan. Here is what I did to get it working:

  • I made a Unibeast UEFI clover disk with 10.11.3 (no video stuff checked)
  • hit F2 - BIOS (version F15) settings: optimized defaults, switched SATA to AHCI instead of IDE
  • saved & rebooted, hit F12, chose thumb drive (in front-panel USB3) & booted to clover
  • went to SMBIOS clover options section. Set system definition to iMac13,2 and it booted into mac installer.
  • formatted harddrive in Disk Utility
  • did fresh OSX install
  • rebooted, hit F12 again, booted off thumb drive (again with iMac13,2) to new install
  • answered setup questions got to desktop
  • multibeast 8.2.2:
    • latest VoodooHDA (universal sound driver)
    • Clover UEFI
    • set System Definition to iMac13,2
  • at this point it still wouldn't boot off clover on the harddrive. I booted from thumb drive (again, with iMac13,2 ) I mounted the 2 EFI partitions with EFI Mounter and copied everything from the bootdisk EFI partition to the harddisk EFI partition. Then I edited with Clover Configurator and set SMBIOS system version to "iMac13,2"
  • this got me booted. I went back into Multibeast, and installed VoodooHDA and it didn't work, but installed it from another site, rebooted and sound works.

This is probably not the best way, but it worked.
