Looking for some help guys! Not sure what would be the best setup/configuration, so looking for your thoughts:
Current setup is OSx 10.6.8 on a 60gb SSD, with a 1tb HDD for media, files, etc. I purchased a new 250GB Samsung 840, and I'd like to have OSx Mavericks on it, and then put Windows on my 60gb, and dual boot.
I'm not sure how to go about moving the current OSx to the 250gb SSD, get it all setup and working w/o issues, then format the 60gb and install windows. My system currently uses Chimera (I believe) to give me the option at startup to boot to my SSD or my HD (which isn't bootable) so the dual booting should be configured already, just need to get the drives setup.
Wouldn't mind other option as well - should I partition the 250gb SSD to 2 drives, and put OSx and Windows on it, then use the 60gb as a backup or RAID of the OSx so I always have a working PC in case of SSD failure?
My process thought looks like this: 1. Install the 250gb SSD and setup as a blank drive. 2. Use some software (but what?) to 'clone' the 60gb OSx 10.6.8 to the 250gb SSD 3. Update the OSx to Mavericks with a bootable USB per tonymac instructions 4. Once working correctly, format the 60gb SSD, unplug the 250gb SSD, and install Windows 8.1 to the 60gb drive. 5. Make sure Chimera allows for selection of which drive to boot to.
What am I missing? Is it really as easy as the steps outlined above? Help me do this right guys!
Thanks!
