The problem:
I'm trying to install Mavericks on my HP dv7000 series laptop. The problem is, I can't get to the installation screen!
When booting from the installation USB, the first Apple logo screen shows up, then the screen flickers, it goes to the gray screen with the spinning wheel. After a couple seconds, the spinning wheel starts to get stuck. The laptop doesn't freeze, but it doesn't go beyond that point. When booting with the -v -x -f flags, I can see it loading all the kexts, including graphics. Soon after loading the graphic kexts it goes to the gray screen as if it were to start, and quickly drops to a black screen with a little white square (cursor) in the top left corner. I can type stuff and it will show up on the screen. It gets refreshed every few seconds.
I'm preparing a new clean myHack USB to give it a few more tries. However, I could use some tips and advice! I can't change any BIOS settings though (there aren't any).
What I've tried:
- Creating the USB Installation stick with both myHack and UniBeast (heck, even tried to create it by hand!);
- All sorts of boot flags and combinations: -x, -f, -F, GraphicsEnabler=Yes/No, IGPEnabler=Yes/No, UseKernelCache, npci=0x2000 and 0x3000, cpus=1, USBBusFix, PCIRootUID, darkwake, PciRoot, SkipAtiGx, SkipIntelGfx;
- Tried to boot with an Extra folder int he USB stick's root, with the smbios.plist, org.chameleon.Boot.plist and DSDT.aml I'm using in my current Mountain Lion installation;
- Previous step with my current kexts, also with NVDANV50Hal.kext
- Tried to boot with ML kernel and also with RehabMan's Mavericks/Haswell patched kernel
Relevant Hardware (exact model is dv6830es):
- Quanta motherboard (ICH8)
- Core2Duo T5550 1.83Ghz
- GeForce 8600M GS 256 MB
- 4 GB 666 MHz DDR2
My current ML installation:
I'm on Mountain Lion 10.8.3. Chimera has no flags set (By the way, I only needed GraphicsEnabler=Yes to boot the ML thumb drive). I use a custom DSDT (work still in progress) made from my laptop's DSDT. Sleep works, lid inducing sleep too, it wakes up from sleep. Graphics work, CPU and GPU stepping work too. I've got a WiFi card that works OOB. Integrated Bluetooth works. Fingerprint reader is detected, but was not tested. Battery info works.
ML Kexts:
- FakeSMC
- AppleSmartBatteryManager (coupled with changes made in the DSDT, I get full battery info)
- AppleHDA (Sound. Jack sensing works too)
- VoodooSDHC (Card Reader)
- ApplePS2Controller & AppleCPIPS2Nub (Keyboard/Touchpad. I'll probably tweak the DSDT later so that I can get rid of those)
Other Info:
I do get a few weird things while booting and I'll be investigating them in a second. If anyone has any advice about any of these, go ahead.
