I'm building a mini/affordable Hackintosh for a friend to use as a HTPC/family computer. She has a MacBook, but her husband and daughter don't have computers so they have to borrow hers, and of course often times more than one person needs the computer. I'm going with OS X because she's used Macs all her life.
After doing some research, I found the Intel NUC and thought it'd be perfect. The i3-3217u model has already been tested and is cheap considering it includes the CPU, PSU, and chassis. I also have a spare 4 GB DDR3 laptop RAM stick as well has a couple spare mPCIe wifi cards (not sure if they're compatible though). If it works, I'd just need a mSATA SSD and a wireless keyboard/trackpad combo. Oh, and a monitor.
So I'm looking to see if I'm missing anything, if there's anything I need to watch out for, etc. Do I have to watch out for compatibility issues with the RAM or mSATA SSD? Is there anything I'm overlooking?
OH! And I don't have access to a Mac for this one (normally I'd use my friend's, but this is going to be a surprise for her). I was thinking of buying the disk and using my spare USB ODD. Should that work?
Thanks in advance.
