I have been using a hackintosh 8 core xeon for a while but recently moving to mavericks has caused issues. originally i planned to get a real mac pro when i had the funds and got a real job. the time has come. but instead of wasting any money, im gonna go the techie route and do something else.
i just purchased a 3,1 mac pro early 2008. it is pretty much a custom configured bare bones. single quad core 2.8 xeon. radeon 2600XT card, with 4gb ram, a broken superdrive, a small boot drive and 3 extra tb HDs.
the plan is this. use my current hackintosh parts to upgrade. i have purchased a pair of heatsinks so i can add another cpu. my two current 3.16 quad xeons are going to be installed in place of the single 2.8 quad xeon. removing the cheap ram and installing my 16GB hynix ram. (may have an issue with heat spreaders) i will be moving to a 1200fsb from 1600fsb but the addition of the extra cpu more than makes up for this.
i am installing my two Nvidia Quadro FX5600 workstation cards and purchased all necessary pci power adaptors. (2 6pin on each). Then i will install my current superdrive which happens to be original mac pro compatible.
i have a new samsung 840 250gb sd that i planned on putting in my hackintosh, so that will be the new boot drive. bought a powder coated blue hd drive sled for the 2.5in ssd from OWC. the three 1tb drives will be erased and partitioned.
not sure if the mac pro has a wireless setup as it has not arrived, but i have a minipci atheros card with pci adaptor and antennas so im sure i can get that to work.
i will try and record the process with my camera in 1080p or maybe with pics and text. have not decided.
