I'm trying to build a replacement for my 2009 macbook pro. It's served me well but would much rather make it more of a secondary computer at this point in it's life cycle. I would have loved to have thunderbolt in the system but I don't have anything that uses it at the moment and things seem kinda wonky in terms of support for it, while also just increasing my price.

I've heard mixed things about the Gigabyte motherboards, (usb ports dieing on people) but really unsure on a proper replacement for it. I'm going to likely do a dual boot setup, with an ssd for the os and use a spare drive i have right now for my media. Debating on if i should get a second ssd out of the gates or start with one and see how it goes at the start. Need to decide on a monitor and keyboard too but i think that'll come down to feeling out the market/getting my hands on a mechanical keyboard to try it out.
